The New Year's Eve Vintage Dress...

I love New Year's...I like the feeling of having a fresh start or outlook on life. It is almost as if you are clicking the refresh button, the past year fades away and the new year begins all shiny and new and full of life discovery. To Deep? I get like this around the last month of the year. New year's gets me all giddy! I have enjoyed 2009 and have had nothing but good times and fun memories to remind me of the year. I hate it when people say that New year's eve is an anti climax...I think it is if you are sat at home watching tv, but if you are with great mates and having a giggle...well, it does not get much better than that. So get yourself out there and party like it's 2009!

2009 is not just any year...it is the last year of this decade so this year's NYE is extra special and to give it some extra razzmatazz you will need a special New Year's eve vintage dress...I have picked some special vintage dresses out for you that I think have that added NYE sparkle needed for 2010!

For some Hollywood glamour on New Year's eve 2009 why not take inspiration from Audrey Hepburn with my favourite two LBDs. The perfect vintage little black dresses we have available with added sparkle and glitter. Hello 2010!

What are you all doing this NYE? What will you be wearing? High street or vintage?

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas...

Some pictures of the snow today...it's beginning to look alot like christmas...

Cosmo the Dog/Snow bunny?

Cosmo, my shih tzu puppy and I awoke to a white world this morning! It must have snowed through the night in West Sussex as my garden was ankle high in snow. I love christmas time and I love the snow so Cosmo and I leapt out of bed to have ourselves a snow-mance. Cosmo is tiny so instead of running through the snow, she bunny hopped....which was hilariously C.U.T.E and luckily I had my handy Flip camera to hand and caughty my very own dog bunny playing in the snow. I'm dreaming of a white christmas...

The Colour In Dress...

The colour-in dress is here...so 2010! A friend sent me the link to this story so I shall not claim to know much about this awesome dress apart from it comes in this one style with a dozen colouring pens for you to decorate and personalise your special one off and unique dress. Fifty dresses like this have been produced for a gal's colouring pleasure in many different sizes and it could be yours for just 250 euro's (depending on shipping costs). Send an email to soepboerschuurman@gmail.com if you interested in one of these dresses. Happy colouring in!

What do you think? Would you want to colour in your very own dress? Think you can colour within the lines? Is this just a novelty dress or is this the future of fashion? Surely it is not the only way to wear something so original and unique to everyone else? There are still 50 of them out there after all.

Audrey Hepburn Inspired Dresses without the Auction Price Tag.

Have you only just heard about the Audrey Hepburn auction in London that saw some of Hepburn's most iconic outfits go against the hammer on Tuesday 8th December 2009? Well do not worry as you can see from my blog posts below I had it all covered for you. I went along the day before to London's La Galleria to spy some of Audrey's dresses from the 50s to the 60s.
With the dress Audrey wore in "How to steal a million" selling for £60,000... Ladies, we were never going to get Hepburn's chic style on our budgets?!
So I have gone through my rails and picked out some pretty chic vintage dresses from Natasha Bailie Vintage Clothing Company so you can at least try and get a vintage dress in the style of Audrey Hepburn.

A rare and beautiful 1950s cocktail dress! Made of black taffeta with a velvet bow tied together by big sparkly rhinestones. This is a very glamorous "Robert Dorland" prom dress. It has big blooming flowers detailed all over and all this vintage dress needs is a perfect accessory...a cocktail!

Tampax VIP Swishing party, London.

Last night I was one of the handpicked blogging gang invited to London's PUNK in Soho to attend a swishing party on behalf of Tampax and 1000 heads. I along with my lovely friend Maria travelled up to the big smoke from Brighton with our 5 pieces of clothing to swap for 5 pieces of someone elses wardrobe. Upon arrival we were met with a lovely glass of bubbly, showered with the tastiest nibbles, cutest cupcakes and girly cocktails were available throughout the night.

Swishing is fast becoming the new shopping. It is a great way to refresh your wardrobe and it is of course FREE! I have been to a few swishing events now and each one has been different. One was a free for all and you could take what you liked, another event was organised with a points scheme.
At lastnight's Tampax event we simply had to bring five items to swap for five items. It was so much fun, there was a flurry of anticipation and excitement before it started as there were just rails around the room so we all had enough browsing time. The only danger was if whatshername wanted the same piece as you!

We also had access to a fabulous stylist Liane who assists Mademoiselle Robot. Liane was great and was trying to get people to swap for items they might not normally buy. I think it is important to push fashion and I thought this was excellent advice. I am guilty of getting too comfortable with my fashion and style choices. For some reason when a woman hears the word FREE CLOTHES something happens...possibly a chemical reaction. All the what's and but's that usually happen in a store go out the window along with reason. So swishing is a great place to try other fashion choices without investing too much in a style. If it does not work you can just swap those unwanted items at the next swishing bonanza. So if you get the chance to swish you must do it. It is a great way to update your wardrobe, meet new people and have fun. Swishing is a woman's version of a sleepover, but far more spohisticated and with champers!

Check out my swagga!

The Audrey Hepburn Dress Collection, London.

It was truly a momentous day for me yesterday as I went along to London's La Galleria arcade to see the very special Audrey Hepburn Dress collection. All the dresses are going up against the hammer today and I cannot wait to hear how much they will go for at Kerry Taylor Auctions.
I am of course a massive vintage fashion fan and I love the 1950s in particular so to have been invited to take a look at this collection was a real treat. I also took my mother in law with me who shares my love of Hepburn and we ended up spending at least an hour going through all the Hepburn outfits, discussing the films and how the dresses must of been made and how romantic the time was. It was a fabulous day out and we both felt rather privileged to get so up close with some of Hepburn's most famous vintage dresses.

The dresses above are just a taster of the Audrey Heburn dress collection. We saw the famous Givenchy haute couture black lace dress worn by Audrey in "How to steal a million", 1966. This dress is estimated to sell for over £20000! (See pictured bottom right). The wedding dress was designed for Audrey for her marriage to James Hanson in 1952, the same year Hepburn was making "Roman Holiday". This marriage never happened and Audrey asked the Fontana sisters who designed the dress to give the dress away. The lucky Italian girl who did get to wear this amazing bridal gown carefully stored the dress away for decades untill one of the Fontana sisters traced the vintage gown for an exhibition of their work.

Dress from the film "Love in the afternoon"
The best thing about the exhibit apart from the amazing Audrey Hepburn dresses and outfits, was all the details that had gone into creating this fabulous vintage dress exhibit. There were beautiful archived pictures that I had never seen before hung around the room and the catalogue was full of information about Audrey Hepburn and the dresses she had worn. Every dress had a story and Kerry Taylor and her team must have put their all into researching the dress, the film, the decade and Audrey's life.

I secretly hope that the whole collection gets bought for a museum as it seems such a shame to split this collection up and I know that you all want to see it so it would be amazing if the dresses could be shown in all their glory to all Audrey Hepburn fans.
If you love Audrey Hepburn and the glamour of old Hollywood you may be very excited about my other news; London's V&A museum is showcasing dresses worn by Grace Kelly in 2010. From April 17th the V&A will open their doors and display some of the most famous dresses worn by Grace Kelly. I am very excited and will be there with my prom dress on!

Grace Kelly's Hollywood wardrobe on display at London's V&A Museum in 2010.

I have just heard that London's V&A museum are showcasing some of Grace Kelly's Hollywood wardrobe in April 2010.
The show will include three sections; "The Actress", "The Bride" and "The Princess".
The exhibition, Grace Kelly: Style Icon, will feature dresses from her films including High Society and Rear Window and the dress she wore to accept her Oscar for Country Girl in 1955.
The show will feature some of her most famous outfits from both film and her personal life and the public will be able to see how Grace Kelly's style evolved from actress to princess. Not only will we be able to spy Grace's gorgeous dresses and suits, but her famous accessories too including the famous Hermes "Kelly" bag named after the princess will be on display.
I love Grace Kelly and have done since I first watched "High Society" which was shown to me before the age of 10 and both Kelly and that film is what made me decide to live the vintage way of life and throw myself into the 50s. I cannot wait for this exhibit and will be there with belles and a prom dress on trying to get a glimpse of Grace Kelly's fabulous clothes!
Exhibition opens April 17th - September 26th at The Victoria & Albert Museum, London.
