Book Review: A Vintage Affair by Isobel Wolff

I read this book last April on a lovely sunny holiday and so this post is very late indeed. Apologies. I was just looking through my all books and fell in love with this book all over again. From the cover you would think this book was an obvious cheesy chick lit, but I am here to tell you otherwise.
Isobel Wolff's eighth novel tells the tale of Pheobe Swift who has always dreamt of opening her own vintage dress shop. (Ehem...sound familiar?) Pheobe's dream does come true and she gets her very own shop and we follow her on her search for fabulous vintage dresses. (sounds like candy floss huh?....just wait..wait..) On the quest for the best in vintage, pheobe has to visit suppliers, go to house clearances and every now and again people contact Pheobe with a collection to sell. This is where Pheobe meets Therese, an elderly French woman, but Therese has one piece she will never part with...a little blue coat.
One of the many reasons I love vintage clothing is the stories. I love that every dress has a story, a life before me. I like wondering about who wore it and where it has been. If it was worn on a first date or worn to a dance...I just wish I knew the story behind each dress.
A Vintage Affair is a novel just like that: Therese starts to tell Pheobe the story behind the little blue coat she will not part with and it is an amazing story. Aside from the little blue coat the book also has some tragedy and light romance thrown in for good measure. This book will make you cry, smile, laugh and feel good. So go book a holiday and make sure Isobel Wolff's : A Vintage Affair is at the top of your list.
