It is one of my favourite movies so I was so surprised to realise there were lots of fun facts I did not know about Breakfast at Tiffany's...like who was the real Holly Golightly? How many cigarettes were smoked on the set? How did they shoot Audrey in front of Tiffany's without any disturbance? How did Mickey Rooney feel playing a role that is still discussed today surrounded by controversy.
I found this amazing list online: 25 things you did not know about Breakfast at Tiffany's...here are some of my favourite facts:
1.)
Capote envisioned Marilyn Monroe in the part of Holly Golightly, but her acting coach, Paula Strasberg, talked her out of it, saying the role's call-girl-like nature was bad for her image.
2.)
Audrey Hepburn disliked Danishes even though a danish was the pastry of choice for her breakfast at Tiffany's.
3.)
Hepburn worked with designer Hubert de Givenchy to craft her costumes for the film. Holly's iconic little black dress is one of the most influential fashion choices in cinema history and a must for nearly every woman's wardrobe ever since.
4.)
You'd never know from Holly's lean figure that Hepburn had given birth to son Sean just three months before shooting.
5.)
The extras playing the guests at Holly's house party were all friends and relations of the director. According to studio notes, the revellers consumed plenty of real champagne, as well as 120 gallons of soft drinks and 60 cartons of cigarettes.

Oh, I love Audrey Hepburn! Of all these things you've mentioned I am most surprised about the fact that I didn't know the whole truth about the little black dress. But I do know :-)

ReplyDelete- I really like Audrey in this role, but...
- She inspired herself in Julie Harris "I am a camera", a film based on The Berlin Stories by Christopher Isherwood ... The construction of Holly G. is not original, it is almost the same Sally Bowles character that Julie performed in this other film...
- It can be said that Audrey imitated Julie Harris... (Pliz, check "I am a camera" and you will notice inmediatly...).
- Even more, Truman Capote almost copied the Isherwood`s Sally Bowles with this Holly G. It is not really original...
Love Breakfast at Tiffany's! Thanks for sharing these facts...very interesting. Best of luck!
