Mad Men Vs The Hour

Mad Men

The Hour

I think TV is about to get interesting....

I am in Singapore and not even I can escape the lure of another vintage style drama set in 1950s Britain.
The Hour looks set to be a great BBC drama with Hollywood heavyweights like Dominic West (The Wire) leading the cast, what can go wrong?
Of course you simply cannot mention the 50s without Mad Men coming up into conversation, it seems Mad Men has become the "50s" which is crazy as it is set in 1960, based in a Manhattan ad agency and features housewives who look like they are stepping onto a catwalk not a kitchen. Whereas The Hour is set in the UK, set in 1956 when rationing was dying out, based in a TV news station and features women who ARE trying to work in a man's world. Confused?

Mad Men

The Hour

Too similar? Can't wait? I will definitely try and watch - mainly for the fashion and accessories, but hopefully I shall stay for the drama, cast and authenticity to the era. You know they have only just begun filming series 5 of Mad Men, we may as well enjoy ourselves whilst we wait no?

Don Draper or Hector Madden?

Don't make me choose...

Vintage Swimwear - A History

It's that time of year when holidays are upon us, when all we need to decide is one piece or bikini, pool or beach, hat or factor 50? Decisions, decisions...of course it has not always been this easy.

The video above is a treat for all vintage swimwear enthusiasts. A visual archive of vintage women's swimsuits from the flapper days of the 1920s through to the late 1940s. Footage courtesy of the Internet Archive and Prelinger Archive. Music by Annette Hanshaw.

La Dolce Vita! Kelly Brook 50s Style Dress

Kelly Brook tweeted that she was sight seeing in Naples, Italy and apparently became the sight to see. Kelly tweeted 'In Naples! Men are looking at me like I am Gelato!! Are there women in Italy??'

Kelly's dress is from the Jasper Conran S/S 11 collection and has a fun seaside print.

You may have mixed feelings about Kelly Brook, but I have always loved her 50s frocks and va va voom look. It took her a while to find her style (remember the famous pink dress?) but she has it! She celebrates her figure, by wearing the clothes, not letting them wear her. Which gives me a lot of hope as a fellow busty broad who loves a 1950s prom dress.

What do you think of Kelly brook's dress? Love it or hate it?

Retro Kim Kardashian

Keeping up with the Kardashians and well, who am I kidding....anything Kardashian is my guilty pleasure, except I really don't feel guilty...says more about me I guess. With adverts, fashion stores, fragrances and well manicured fingers in many pies the KK broads are doing it well and for themselves. You cannot deny they are successful at what they do - making money.

Kim Kardashian is famous for her "curves" and although she has been photographed a million times in all types of designer gowns and accessories, this retro, vintage look is by far my favourite. Too bad she was just wearing it for an advert for her new fragrance.

What do you think of Kim Kardashian's vintage style? Sophia Loren?

Wimbledon Chic Darling!

I could not keep my eyes on the court with the fashion show that was going on in the stands. Celebs, socialites, actors and royalty were all spotted court side at this years wimbledon and no one seemed worried about getting strawberries and cream down themselves!

I loved Katherine Jenkins aqua lace dress by Whistles.

Dakota Fanning was spotted in the Evian VIP lounge.

Kate Middleton scores again, this time in Temperley.

Kirsten Dunst spotted wearing vintage in the Evian VIP lounge with stylist, Leith Clark.

1950s Facebook Etiquette

1950s Facebook...seems we have not come on much since then. My "friends" are still annoying the hell out of me by 'checking in' to a new location every 2 mins and asking me to milk their cow via Farmville. (UNFOLLOW)
