Kelly Brook Launches Vintage Inspired Underwear for New Look

First bikinis and now lingerie...boys and busty girls everywhere are heading to the high street and New Look in particular. British celeb/model/actress (what is correct?) Ms.Kelly Brook has designed a bikini collection and vintage inspired lingerie range for New Look that promises to cater to ladies with assets.

Kelly is a 34E and a self confessed "lingerie addict"...does that mean she knows what she is talking about?

I don't know, but as a fellow busty broad I imagine she has experienced the same problems I have faced when it comes to the lingerie department.

For example...just because you have a large cup size, the same cannot be said for your ass, but when underwear is sold in sets - really what is a gal to do?

I have had shop assistants look at me in disgust for even mentioning the word "mix and match". Heaven forbid!

So I am hoping Kelly has taken this experience and mixed the shizz nit out of her underwear sizing. Have you ever experienced a similar problem? Seriously, when did knicker shopping become the new jean shopping? I digress.

Pastels, ice cream sundaes and lady like chic...oh my. I love the suits in the first picture with the giant buttons and collars. Very Jackie Onassis meets Nicole Kidman in the movie "To die for". Over 100 Hollywood Costumes to be Displayed at London's V&A Museum

Good news for all you London city dwellers...a fabulous exhibit is to be hosted by the V&A this October 2012 for all movie costume lovers. Ever wanted to see the infamous LBD worn by Audrey Hepburn in 'Breakfast at Tiffany's'? Or Judy Garland's pinafore frock from 'The Wizard of Oz'?
A large 'Hollywood costume' exhibition will showcase more than a hundred of the most memorable dresses, accessories, suits and wares for the first time.

The exhibit boasts items such as Indiana Jones's fedora and jacket, Scarlett O’Hara’s green ‘curtain’ gown worn in Gone with the Wind and the red jacket worn by Michael Jackson in the music video for 'Thriller'. All these iconic costumes will be displayed alongside costumes from more recent releases including The Iron Lady, Batman and Spiderman.

Every costume and each piece of clothing has been sourced from across the globe and has been loaned from costume houses, museums, film studios and private collectors.
'This landmark exhibition will provide a once in a life-time opportunity to explore the most beloved characters in Hollywood history and gain insight on the role of the costume designer and their vital contribution to cinema storytelling.'

Although it's very difficult to get all the exact details as Marilyn Monroe's make-up artist never betrayed her secrets, it's fun to talk about and look at the different tricks and details of Marilyn's make-up.

Marilyn had lots of different looks and was pretty natural off camera but this video concentrates on the very glamorous look she had for her movies and poster shoots from 1953 through to the end of the 50's. Lots of the tricks where geared towards the lighting, film and cameras of the time.

Golden Globes 2012 : The Frocks!

So last night was the glorious Golden Globes award ceremony where we start to narrow down the guessing game for who will win Oscars and judge celebrities on what and who they are wearing.

What a night...frocks were big news, I am talking big, pouffy, long, grand, colourful, detailed and similar to bridesmaids dresses. Either the ladies are all huge fans of Kristen Wiig or they all let their kids dress them? Unless Suri Cruise is your human nuggett I would advise leaving award ceremony dressing to the professionals! What did you love? Who did you hate? I liked Jessica Alba's Gucci frock...her daughter said she looked like a mermaid. I am not sure if that is good or bad?

Oh SMG...Buffy would kick your ass for this!

Michelle Williams looked nice in Navy. That is all.

Piper Perabo really loves her dress, but she cannot dance on bars with it. How disappointing...

Reese Witherspoon looked red hot and that sexpot hair meant she was not alone at any of the after parties.

Madonna - seriously with the gloves? Why? Unless you are going to start wearing Downton Abbey length gloves I do not want to see these fingerless hand covers again.

The Duchess of Cambridge is Bringing Hats Back!

Justin Timberlake brought sexy back and now Kate Middleton is bringing hats back. So 2012!

Whether your a fan of the Royal family or not, you can't help, but be swept into Middleton mania. The Duchess of Cambridge is photographed on the hour at every event, occasion, press trip and even on private birthday strolls. Everyone wants to talk about what the British Princess is wearing, has worn, plans to wear and has worn twice. Blogs are dedicated to Kate's style, the high street and British economy are thanking Kate's style and apparently Victoria Beckham is desperate to get Kate in one of her frocks. Kate Middleton is turning out to be quite the role model for young women and I have to confess I will take a Royal over Snooki from Jersey Shore any day of the week.

I won't bore you, but Kate's head has not gone un-noticed at NBVCC headquarters...is the hat coming back? I do hope so... what do you think of Kate's collection of fine hats? Just a British thing or do you rock a headpiece like a Princess?

On the 17th March, Fairfield concert hall in Croydon will be hosting a special evening called Hitchcock & Hollywood where you can meet Tippi Hedren, one of Alfred Hitchcock’s iconic blondes and famous for her leading role in Marnie and the movie The Birds in 1963. Tippi Hedren will be on-stage to tell tales of her time working with Hollywood’s master of suspense.

With clips from some of Hitchcock’s most famous films on the Fairfield’s big screen, Miss Hedren will discuss the background to famous Hitchcock films, such as Vertigo, Psycho, Marnie, The Man Who Knew Too Much and North By North West.

Alfred Hitchcock had a deep understanding for the importance of music in a film, famously using only strings in Psycho and no music at all in The Birds. So it seems only right that music play a huge part of the evening with the critically acclaimed New Queen’s Hall Orchestra on stage to play some of Hollywood’s greatest scores.

Dior has chosen it's face for 2012...the face to represent the brand is actress, Mila Kunis. The Black Swan star will be everywhere this spring covered head to toe from Dior. As a fabulous pal on Twitter quite rightly said...it is great knowing the face, but who is the designer behind Dior?

It is not unusual for the French fashion house to choose an actress for their campaigns and it is a move they have succeeded in again and again...

Merry Christmas everybody! It has been quite a year in the Bailie house and we have lots to celebrate and look back on with happy faces this year. I think I even lost weight. (Been on the resolution list for the last few years).

Mr.Bailie and I moved across seas to Singapore, travelled half of Asia with plans for even more foreign adventures for 2012. We had a website make over so the shop looks even more fabulous for my lovely customers and I designed and created my very own vintage style dress collection. A dream I have had since I started selling vintage dresses online in 2008.

If that was enough we have been so lucky to have found great new friends in Singapore to share our Asian adventures with, which has made Singapore feel just like home. We miss all our UK pals and cannot wait to see more of you here in 2012, thanks to all of you for sending us off in style and making such an effort to keep in contact with us. (Especially as we are in the future...timezones).

Lana Del Rey Phenomenon : Born to Die

This has nothing to do with anything really - except I like it and well...this is my blog and I tell you what I like and you say "rubbish' or 'great'. Thats how this works right? Anywho this is Lana Del Rey - if you do not know her yet...you will. Her album is not released until the end of January 2012 (the future), but her song Video Games and Born to Die have already raised the American singers profile and travelled down many an ear canal.

Her stage name is a combination of the Hollywood actress Lana Turner and the Ford Del Rey and she calls herself the "gangsta Nancy Sinatra".

So what do you kids think? Have you already bought into the Del Rey phenomenon? I was quick to compare her to Florence Welch from Florence and the Machine, but her sound is different and her voice is mesmerising. I strangely want to go and watch Twin Peaks after hearing Born to Die.

After watching The Kings Speech I have been excited by this love story and after watching the film trailer above I simply can't wait to see the gorgeous vintage fashion and fabled romance play out.

So what is W.E about...

W.E. is a passionate tale about the search for true love in the modern world, viewed through the prism of one of history's most fabled romances. The year is 1998, and Manhattan is abuzz with anticipation about the upcoming auction of the estate of the Duke and Duchess of Windsor.

But the auction is far more than a diversion for Wally Winthrop, a transplanted Southerner trapped in an unhappy and abusive marriage. Transfixed by the exquisite artefacts of the Windsors' lives, Wally becomes obsessed with the love story of Wallis Simpson, the chic, charismatic American who captured the heart of King Edward VIII. As she learns more about the sacrifices Wallis made in choosing to be with Edward, Wally finds the courage to follow her own heart and create her own happiness.

Madonna co wrote and directed the film and had an amazing production team behind her, who have been responsible for great films. Including Walk the Line, Young victoria and A Single Man.

Holly Golightly's Manhattan Townhouse is For Sale

The Manhattan townhouse where Holly Golightly lived in Breakfast at Tiffany's has gone on the market for $5.85 million. The exterior of the New York brownstone played a huge role in the 1961 movie and it is unknown how much of the interior was used in the film or if Mickey Rooney is still the landlord or pretending to be Asian.

The brownstone is located on 196 East 71st Street and is split into two apartments so you can always rent one out to keep up with the mortgage payments. Failing that you could try asking for $50 when you need to use the powder room.

Kim Kardashian Buys Elizabeth Taylor's Jewels for $65,000!

It has been reported that the Elizabeth Taylor jewellery collection auction has brought in a record breaking $116 million! It has broken the record for a single-owner jewellery auction. Damn that Dame loved her sparkles.

Turns out that one of those involved in the Christie's bidding war for Elizabeth's jewels was none other than fellow bling lover, Kim Kardashian who secured 3 Lorraine Schwartz bracelets by spending $65,000. (Just a stocking filler for Kourtney and Khloe maybe?)

Kim Kardashian has gone on record before about her love for Elizabeth Taylor and seems to be following in the legends foot steps with her second divorce after being married for just 72 days. The bracelets bought by Kim K were estimated to sell for $8,000. Damn that lady really loves to sparkle!

Sienna Miller To Play Tippi Hedren

Sienna Miller has been cast to play the role of Tippi Hedren in a new BBC drama based on the Hollywood star and Alfred Hitchcock's relationship. The drama will show director, Alfred Hitchcock's infatuation with Tippi in the 1960s.

Hitchcock first spotted Hedren in a TV commercial and apparently became "obsessed". The legendary director then cast Tippi as his leading blonde in the film 'The Birds'. Hitchcock was known for his blonde leading ladies casting Grace Kelly, Eva Marie Saint, Janet Leigh, Kim Novak and Tippi Hedren.

Gwyneth Hughes, the writer of the BBC2 drama, explained why it has taken a while for Tippi to talk about her affair with Hitchcock.
'At the time, in the early 1960s, the American star suffered in silence. But now, at the age of 81, her wisdom and insights have helped me to put her real life ordeal on to the screen.'
'Everyone knows Hitchcock was keen on his blondes. Unfortunately for Tippi, he developed a twisted and obsessive love for her that left her feeling isolated and terrified.
'Today we would call it sexual harassment but that concept had not been accepted back then.'

Sienna Miller will star opposite British actor Toby Jones as Alfred Hitchcock. The film airs next year on BBC2 and will be called "The Girl".

Eco Friendly Vintage Style Dresses by Livia Firth

Livia Firth is known for her "Green Carpet Challenges" which she writes about on her blog online at Vogue.com. Oh and she is married to Colin Firth the actor don't you know. Firth's blog documents Livia's "green" challenges to find fabulous eco frocks for red carpet events with husband Colin, like the Golden Globes and the Oscars, both of which she attended last year. You may remember she caused quite a stir in vintage town after butchering/recycling (however you see it) eleven vintage 1930s gowns to create one dress for the Oscars.

Well after all that jazz, Livia Firth has created her own capsule collection of sustainable dresses in partnership with Reclaim to Wear, an organization that helps designers recycle textile surplus and waste into high-end garments. The dresses are available to buy now online at yoox and can be yours for the large sum of $832!!

Firth was apparently inspired by a 1950s polka-dot frock that her mother bought in Italy, when she was 8 years old. The dress is still hanging in her closet some 33 years later.

Pan Am Cancelled?

Pan Am's Colette, Karine Vanasse tweeted (who am I...Heat magazine?)

"Well, we received THE call, #PanAm is only coming back for one more episode after Christmas. But up to the end, we'll give it our all!"
To which I screamed 'Nooooooooooo'.

Apparently (now Pan Am is trending on Twitter worldwide) ABC reps, sources, moles, squirrels are saying the complete opposite!?

The ABC rep explains "No, this is not correct," that Pan Am has been canceled. "Nothing has changed. We are not canceling Pan Am. We are still in production and will continue to be in production finishing the original 13 episodes plus one more additional one."
However...."Pan Am is still in contention for next season. We won't know about that until our upfront announcement in May."

What the hell is going on? Is Pan Am cancelled or not?

Everyone knows 'Breakfast at Tiffany's,' the classic, romantic comedy set in New York City and starring Audrey Hepburn in one of her most iconic roles. Breakfast at Tiffany's was THE movie that cemented Audrey's status as a fashion icon, her style has been emulated and discussed in movies, songs, books and TV shows ever since 1961 when the movie was first released. Most recently in a Gossip Girl episode where Blair Waldorf's bridal shower was "Tiffany" themed with waitresses dressed up like Audrey Hepburn!

It is one of my favourite movies so I was so surprised to realise there were lots of fun facts I did not know about Breakfast at Tiffany's...like who was the real Holly Golightly? How many cigarettes were smoked on the set? How did they shoot Audrey in front of Tiffany's without any disturbance? How did Mickey Rooney feel playing a role that is still discussed today surrounded by controversy.

I found this amazing list online: 25 things you did not know about Breakfast at Tiffany's...here are some of my favourite facts:

Capote envisioned Marilyn Monroe in the part of Holly Golightly, but her acting coach, Paula Strasberg, talked her out of it, saying the role's call-girl-like nature was bad for her image.

Audrey Hepburn disliked Danishes even though a danish was the pastry of choice for her breakfast at Tiffany's.

3.)
Hepburn worked with designer Hubert de Givenchy to craft her costumes for the film. Holly's iconic little black dress is one of the most influential fashion choices in cinema history and a must for nearly every woman's wardrobe ever since.

4.)
You'd never know from Holly's lean figure that Hepburn had given birth to son Sean just three months before shooting.

5.)
The extras playing the guests at Holly's house party were all friends and relations of the director. According to studio notes, the revellers consumed plenty of real champagne, as well as 120 gallons of soft drinks and 60 cartons of cigarettes.

Avid readers of my corner of the internet will know just how excited I am about the new movie 'My week with Marilyn'. I have blogged every little tit bit I could find online from the decision that Michelle Williams was to play Marilyn Monroe, leaked shots from the film set and the final movie trailers. Finally the day is almost here when we can all finally see the movie.

From the start of blogging about this huge production there have been some cynics out there questioning whether or not Michelle Williams could carry off such an iconic role and how could anyone that was not Scarlett Johansson play Marilyn Monroe etc, etc. Have you seen Blue Valentine? Williams is a superb actress. Equally most of you are as excited as me to see the final outcome and I am as eager as ever to see it since hearing that Michelle Williams is tipped for an Oscar nomination for her portrayal of Marilyn Monroe.

Mad Men Series 5 coming in March 2012

Finally...it has been written and it shall be so...
All brand spanking new Mad Men, season 5 will premiere in March 2012. The wait is almost over and there is a man shadow falling off a skyscraper at the end of this tunnel. Rumour has it that Jon Hamm will be directing the first episode of the season and series creator Matthew Weiner has already commented that there will be 7 seasons of Mad Men.

Weiner explains:

"I do know how the whole show ends. It came to me in the middle of last season. I always felt like it would be the experience of human life. And human life has a destination. It doesn't mean Don's gonna die. What I'm looking for, and how I hope to end the show, is like … It's 2011. Don Draper would be 84 right now. I want to leave the show in a place where you have an idea of what it meant and how it's related to you. It's a very tall order, but I always talk about 'Abbey Road.' What's the song at the end of Abbey Road? It's called 'The End.' There is a culmination of an experience of people working at their highest level."

What does this mean? Does Don Draper die? Do we want to watch Mad Men and see our favourite characters in 2011? Yikes I am going to just watch and enjoy and not think too much about 'The End.'

I normally write about pretty dresses and only share snippets of myself with you dear readers, but I could not let the legend that was Sir Jimmy Savile go un-posted. He died at the age of 84 on the 29th October and I remember reading the news thinking "who'll fix it now?"

Growing up, my weeks highlight would be to watch "Jim'll fix it" where of course Jim would fix it and make all your dreams come true even if you wanted to meet Dr.Who. Jimmy was my Gandalf!

Sir Jimmy Savile was laid to rest yesterday in his hometown of Leeds where huge crowds were said to of gathered to pay their respects to the great man. RIP Sir Jimmy Savile.

Recently as most of you know via my Twitter I went to Australia last week - my first visit. The weather was not kind and I was in desperate need of a good book to read while I waited for the fog to lift in The Blue Mountains. I had seen the trailer for the movie of The Help, starring Emma Stone and had decided upon my return to Singapore that I was getting a front row seat at the cinema for my viewing pleasure. Knowing I must read the book first I purchased a copy of The Help and "Law" (a HELP thing) I could not put the thing down!

The iconic lace gown Audrey Hepburn wore when she collected her Best Actress Oscar for Roman Holiday is NOW up for auction. The piece was adapted from a version designed by Edith Head that the actress wore in the last scene of the film in 1952. Prices are estimated between £40,000 to £60,000.

Elizabeth Taylor "Golden Gowns" Auction

Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton's romance began on the set of ‘Cleopatra' in 1961.

The film was renowned for its lavish, opulent sets filled with gilded furniture and decorations and it seems that Elizabeth developed something of a penchant for gold herself.

The two ensembles offered for auction were both made when the Burton's were still relative newly-weds in 1964.

One is a simple Chanel shift dress with matching jacket in rich textured, gold brocatelle (estimate £10,000-15,000), the other is the famous ‘Sari’ gown designed for her by Cristobal Balenciaga (estimate £30,000-£50,000) of gold brocade which she was photographed wearing in the company of Richard Burton when they attended the premiere of the New Review Lido in Paris in December 1964.

Miss Taylor was quite curvaceous at this point and the gown boasts a 37 inch bust and a slender 24 inch waist.

The auction will take place on Tuesday November 29th at 2pm.

Hello dear readers - just to let you know I have been busy travelling the globe (Work and pleasure) and well I am off again and this time to AUSTRALIA. Oz has always been a dream destination (Mainly due to the flight times from UK to Oz), but now I live in Singapore, well Australia is just 7 hours away.

Singer Katy Perry is often hot and then cold, but has recently been photographed by David LaChapelle for GHD playing for both sides....good and evil. In a Snow White themed shoot, Perry got to play two characters from the grim fairy tale to showcase GHDs Scarlet Collection for xmas 2011.

Dressed as the evil queen in the first picture, Katy looks to the 1920s for her finger curled hairstyle and vampy boudoir. In the second picture, Perry wears a gorgeous peach Galliano flapper dress whilst she tells the birds what she got up to last friday night I suppose.

More and more pictures have been snapped of actress, Christina Ricci on set in NYC for the sixties drama "Pan Am." I love these vintage dresses and cannot wait to watch the series which is already being compared to "Mad Men."
Ricci responds to the comparison:

'It’s a great comparison to get; Mad Men is a great show and I’m a huge fan. But that does focus more on a man’s experience of that time period and this is much more about these women,' she says.

'These were really women who were taking control of their lives and living in a very feminist kind of way. They weren’t the average women.'

Last season Saunders was all about the forties pencil skirt and this season he seems to of given way to the romance of a fifties prom skirt. With his collection for Spring/Summer 2012 boasting 50s style sun dresses, calf length in many prints and luxurious fabrics. The romance of this Jonathan Saunders collection is amplified by the pastel hues of the dresses. (Get me, I just actually wrote "pastel hues")

I promise I know nothing when it comes to NYFW, LFW, all fashion weeks, but I do know what I like and I love sharing fabulous vintage style on my blog with you. Apart from the 1950s inspired dresses....I did not see much else in this collection that could be worn by a "real life" person.

Remember when you just had to be pretty with dimples to be a model? I miss those days....check out the faces on these "model" broads...

Jaeger S/S 12 Collection: 60s & 70s Vintage Inspired

Jaeger's Spring/Summer 2012 collection was inspired by the "elite" holidaying jet-set lifestyle from the late'60s and early '70s.

Full of the warm colours of spring, the collection featured fitted skirts with cut out detailing and panels, tailored jackets and loose fitting blouses with kitsch collars. I am a huge fan of Jaeger and this collection has not disappointed me and my lady like style.

Paloma Faith Designs Vintage Inspired Range for La Senza!

Vintage loving singer Paloma Faith has designed a range of vintage inspired undies for La Senza to raise funds for Breast Cancer Care.

Designs in the range include an emerald green playsuit for £30, a 'Dolce Vita'- style halter neck bra and matching french knickers for £16. Paloma who loves to play with her fashion choices has a distinct 40s flare which is reflected in her mini range.

The range will hit stores from 1 October and will be limited edition for this month only, coinciding with Breast Cancer Awareness month. A donation from every sale will go to the Breast Cancer Care charity.

I am trying to find all I can about my new style crush; Ulyana Sergeenko. I keep seeing her pictures everywhere and the blogosphere seems to have fallen for her just as hard as I have. I posted about Ulyana just the other day, showcasing her amazing first fall fashion collection.

I love how her vintage style encapsulates her Russian heritage. Ulyana seems fearless when it comes to fashion and all the while looking like a complete lady. She is my hero.

The latest Dior advert for the J'Adore fragrance features some of Hollywood's elite.

The mini movie sees Charlize Theron running late for the Dior fashion show, running backstage to be dressed for the catwalk. Waiting backstage is none other than Marlene Dietrich, Grace Kelly and Marilyn Monroe. Each snapshot of the icons is fleeting, but believable.
